Today is our 7th wedding anniversary. To say that the last 7 years have been the best of my life is an understatement. When I met Glen, we met online, we chatted for about a week before meeting, but I was already attracted to him. He made me laugh, and I felt very comfortable baring my soul. I tend to be very honest, so I just don't see a point in trying to be something I am not, even in the beginning...what you see is what you get. Period. We've been through family drama, his family, mine; Glen's cancer (cancer free for 6 years...whoo hoo!); my surgeries; my job loss, finding and landing a new job; 6 grandkids! After 22 years of a previous marriage that was a sham from the get go, but having to live all those years, to get to this day, today...I am grateful.
Happy Anniversary, honey...thank you for the best years of my life. Here's to many more!! I love you!

Sunday
I had a massage on Saturday morning at the Massage Therapy School I will attend in July. Did I mention I am going to massage school? I may not have, who knows anymore what I say or don't say! Anyway, the plan is to start school in July. It will take me one year to complete the program doing it part time. No choice, I have to work. I met with an admissions counselor a couple of weeks ago, and I was impressed with the program and with their staff. My very first massage, ever, was by Jessica, a graduate of this very program. In fact, I saw her there yesterday morning and she remembered my name! I haven't been to her in about 5 years or so. She teaches classes there, and also has her own business. Students have to complete so many hours of hands-on work towards their certificate. They do no hands on work until the third quarter. Monica did my massage yesterday, and there are two instructors who are in and out of the curtained area supervising the students. I paid $30 for the massage, and you are asked to give feedback for the students' development. I was very satisfied with Monica's work and gave her a good review. I had a $10 off coupon that I forgot to use...I was actually kind of in a haze or very relaxed mode when I left. Oh, well, that only means I still have a coupon for my next massage...which will be ver soon, I assure you!
Speaking of school, I'm a little nervous. It has been sooooo many years since I've attended school, and getting back into the routine of class, study, etc. Its a huge time commitment, 4-5 days a week, 3-4 hours per night (after 9 hours of work), but if not now, when? I shared my concerns with the counselor and she said their oldest graduate was 79 years old! The lady just wanted to learn something...she wasn't going to practice or work, just wanted to learn. They offer tutoring if you're struggling. Basically, if you want to succeed, they will help you in any way, shape or form, to do so. Works for me!
I picked up Ailani after my massage and had to make a run to Sam's Club. Ailani is 4 years old, and prefaces every sentence with, "nana..." I have to keep a sharp mind on her...I'm so used to shopping alone, so when I have one of the grandies with me or even my mom, I am on high alert. I put her in the cart and she helps assemble the items for me. Sam's receipt shows how many items are purchased. After we paid and I got the receipt, Ailani was counting the items, she counted 10. I told her to count the bread as two even though they were in one bag (they were separate items), I looked at my receipt, it said 12 items. She counted again, 11. I went through my receipt, item by item, and they had charged me for 2 pineapples, and I only had one. There is a person checking the items in your cart before you leave the store, and I told the person, about the mis-charge; she sent me to customer service to get my money back. Thank goodness there weren't that many people in line...it was only $2.96, but still. Had it not been for Ailani counting, I would not have noticed! She counts everything...and names colors! It was so hot outside - going from the A/C in the car, outdoors, into stores, back outside, back to a hot car...this nana was tired when we got home. I told her I was going to rest so I laid on the bed and she sat beside me coloring. She was pretty quiet...letting me rest. When I took her home last night, she was falling asleep herself, so I told her it was ok to fall asleep. She said, "nana, we had a hard day". We sure did...and she was out like a light!
We are taking my dad out for dinner for his birthday. His birthday is 5/22, but weekdays are difficult to get everyone together, and next weekend we have a birthday and a graduation party to go to. We also have a graduation on Wednesday, 5/20 in Gilbert. We'll drive up on Wed, stay the night and drive back on Thursday. We leave for vacation on 5/30...boy, are we ready!!

Daughter's Day
My mom and I attended a Daughter's Day brunch hosted by my friend Marie. There were about 25 women, ranging in age from 7 (ok, these were still girls) to 83. If your mom was unable to be there for whatever reason, a picture was ok. The decorations were various sizes of candles atop various crystal candle holders. The picture was placed in front of a candle. We all stood around the island in her kitchen where all these candles were arranged, and each person spoke about their mom and/or a woman in their lives that impacted, shaped, influenced them. OMG...it was so beautiful to hear each woman speak about their mom or a favorite aunt or a grandmother, who made a difference to them and how each one of us somehow "takes after" a woman in their family. Mom's, grandmothers, aunts, educated or not, english speaking or not, monied or poor, married, or some single mothers back in the 30's and 40's when it was certainly more frowned upon and unacceptable, most of the women were the backbone of the family. One mother, who is 93, and still lives on her own in Kentucky, was blinded by disease 40 years ago, and she still brought up 3 girls, made sure each received religious instruction as well as a college education. I was the second to the last to speak, and by this time I was a blubbering idiot! Just seeing my mom's face made me cry and I was unable to say what I really wanted to say, other than she is my hero, my confidante, my friend, but most importantly, she is my mom. I know I can never be half the mom she is to all her kids, and now to her grandkids and great-grandkids. Marie had a yummy brunch of various quiches, salads, desserts (including a bread pudding that was too die for). We also had to take a wrapped "white elephant" gift, and each got to pick a gift or you could "steal" someone else's if you liked it better. My mom isn't too sociable especially in new situations, but she talked to people, and really made an effort to enjoy herself, and others went out of their way to talk to her too. I know I enjoyed the day, and just spending the time with her was priceless! We went to the mall afterward so she could pick out an outfit, and she ended up buying some Coach shoes! I didn't know Coach made shoes...she said they are very comfortable.
We are hosting a late lunch tomorrow in honor of Mother's Day. My parents, sisters, sons will come over...so after the brunch and the mall, I still had to shop for today! We are having ham, mashed potatoes, salad, a veggie, rolls, various munchies, and pie(s) for dessert. Glen did as much as he could in preparing the house, which I so appreciate! Tomorrow its just last minute details, and cooking and putting it all together. Hopefully I can take some pics to post. Dang, I'm tired just thinking about it!
Just finishing up laundry, just have to iron for the week. I want to get as much done tonight as I can.
Wishing all the Mom's out there a Happy Mother's Day...and the daughter's...a Happy Daughter's Day! Talk soon...

Cooking...
Still lots of family drama, and maybe I'll talk about it, but right now I just can't even wrap my own mind around it. It is what it is. I'm not stressing, rather, just letting it unfold. I can't control it, I can only control my reactions. Breathe.
Glen cooks during the week, I cook on weekends. If we're lucky, someone will invite us to a get together on Saturday or Sunday, usually its my family (thats another post), and I'll only have to make one dinner. We usually go to eat on Friday's so Glen cooks 4 times, I cook once or twice. Fair enough. I just bought the Canyon Ranch Cookbook after watching their chef make some chicken on the today show. I made that dish on Saturday. Roasted garlic rolled inside boneless, skinless chicken breasts, over marinara sauce (from the same cookbook), and angel hair pasta. I also made a Napolean salad, yellow and red tomatoes, with fresh mozarella sandwiched in between, drizzled with balsamic vinegar, and sprinkled with fresh basil. OMG...it was soooooo good!! I couldn't believe it was that easy, and that good. Its a really good cookbook to add to my collection of cookbooks and magazines, not to mention all the recipes I find online. The recipes in the cookbook seem pretty easy, pretty simple ingredients, and heavy on the flavor. Not your typical spa food at all!
I have a cough. Not a hacking, dry, or even congested cough, just an annoying cough. I take Lysinopryl for high blood pressure and one of the side effects is a cough. I feel like I might be getting sick again, but then I don't. Anyway, I'll have these coughing fits that just won't stop. I may have to change meds. I asked my doctor what I needed to do to get off the HBP medication, he said I can't get off of it. I'm probably going to hit menopause in a few years, coupled together with being borderline diabetic (no meds for that yet), same medication also helps with kidney health which can be affected by diabetes too, so I really need to have the HBP under control now. Oh, joy, the perks of mature years!
We have so many events in the month of May. Graduations, from elementary to high school to college. A couple of birthday parties, Mother's Day, my dad's birthday, Memorial Day, and our granddaughter, Sophia, turns one. She will not crawl on all fours, but she scooches around on her butt, pulling herself along with her feet and knees, she gets around just fine. It is so cute to see her as its second nature to her to get around like that. Hey, improvise! Then we're off on vacation the first week of June!! I can't wait...
We are forecast to hit 100F tomorrow...ugh! Knew it was coming, but dang, thats just hot! Talk soon...
